佳松御苑｜Kasho Gyoen Hotel

原生林が生い茂る支笏洞爺国立公園内という類稀な環境に広がる敷地は約三千坪。札幌の奥座敷として知られる定山渓温泉からさらに車で１０分ほど入った山間にひっそりと佇むその場所には、北海道の原風景が残されている。初めてこの地を訪れた際、その原風景に自然の脅威を感じた。そして、この「脅威」が私のデザインの出発点となり、「脅威の感覚」を「喜びの感覚」に変えることをデザインの役割として捉えた。つまり、この場所のありのままの自然を、現代人が受け入れやすいモダンな空間の中に再構築することを試みた。

With an area of one hectare, the site is located within National Park in Hokkaido. The site is standing alone in the mountains and you can appreciate the original Hokkaido landscape. On my first visit to the site, I felt a bit fearful at the power of nature. I wanted to turn this feeling from fear into delight. I had researched some materials and crafts produced around the site, and then I brought these influences together in a modern space design. I tried to make a luxurious space as a hotel by using these rustic local materials and crafts.
